MARÍA ANTONIA DANS BOADO

(La Coruña, 1922)

She started her artistic education in the School of Arts and Crafts in La Coruña, and then in the fifties she went on studying in the Circle of Fine Arts and in the San Fernando School in Madrid. After her first exhibition in La Coruña in 1950 her works were displayed in different places starting from little inns to official institutions of Madrid, Córdoba, Badajoz, etc. She received lots of rewards, including the medals of the villa de París, Contemporary Art Museum and Joan March Foundation, as well as numerous awards granted by Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The Port of A Coruña

Her manner was often called infantile or naïf painting with traits of neo-expressionism and fauvism, especially as regards her colour range with the tendency towards sharp contrast between light and dark. Subject matter of María Antonia Dans’s paintings is mainly the rural environment of Galicia, her motherland, - landscapes, people, working in the fields and in the sea, country houses and open country... – origins of which can be found in Lolita Díaz Baliño pictures. These naïf perspective paintings with lively colours form a part of a new generation of Galician painters whose fame and style spread across the entire peninsula.
