JUAN GENOVÉS
(Valencia, 1930-)
He started his training right at the time of the civil war, and its most dramatic episodes were always alive in his memory. In 1955 he travels to Paris for the first time, which means, in his own words, freedom and encounter with informalism. Founder member of several artistic groups Los siete (1949), Parpalló (1956-1959) and Hondo (1960), he also clandestinely sets up ASAP (Association of Plastic, 1968).

From his exhibition in the Hall of the National Library (1965), his so-called “political realism” right at the time of the Franco regime, turned him into a committed defender of freedom. Investigator of human behaviour, he shows by means of metaphysical spaces, geometrical vertical and horizontal rhythms… relations between an individual and a crowd. This critical view invites us to participate in social denunciation. At present days, his international recognition makes his works appear in the most important private and state collections worldwide.
