JOAQUÍN PEINADO 

Joaquín Peinado starts in1915 his trade studies, career which he gives up to enter the Madrid Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. During the following years he will become disciple of Cecilio Plá and Julio Romero de Torres. In 1922 he gets the painting prize of El Paular and, a year later, goes to Paris, where he becomes friend with Picasso, Luis Buñuel, Zervos, Pancho Cossío and Francisco Bores, among others; there, he attends the classes given in the Academies Ranson, Colarossi and The Great Chaumière, at the same time he is interested by the cubist painting, aesthetic he will personalise and keep in his works.

In 1924 he takes part in the exhibitions of the Indépendants  Surindépendants and Autum halls; next year he takes part in the Exhibition of the Iberian Artists Society which takes place in the rooms of the Madrileñan Retreat . In May of  1926 he travels to Amsterdam to take part in the staging of  El retablo de Maese Pedro,( Maese Pedro´s altarpiece) of Manuel de Falla, which had Luis Buñuel as stage director. Months later, he gets the Painting prize from the Delegation of Málaga, occasion in which he stays in Andalucia, together with Baltasar Peña Hinojosa and his cousin, José María Hinojosa. He takes part in the Litoral Magazine of Málaga, and in La Gaceta Literaria,(literary gazette) of Madrid. In 1928 he illustrates La flor de Californía, (California´s flower) of José María Hinojosa and collaborates with a frame in  Gallo, of Granada. Next year, he takes part in two important  collective shows of avant-garde art in Spain: Exhibition of Paintings and Sculptures of Spanish resident in Paris, in the Botanic Garden of Madrid and the Regional Exhibition of Modern Art, in “la Casa de los Tiros” ( House of Shots) of Granada.

In the forties, the group of Spanish artists resident in Paris carries out in Prague (and because of its great success, later in Brno)  the exhibition of Art of the Republican Spain. Artists of the School of Paris. Peinado´s sending was the largest one, with six oils and three drawings. Later, he travels to Mexico, and in 1954, he exhibits his works in the Gallery of Mexican Art. However, it will not be until 1969 when a retrospective of his work would be made in the Museum of Spanish Contemporary Art of  Madrid.
